Rwanda would consider hosting the Africa Women Sitball Championships if approached by the sport’s world governing body, IPC, according to a highly placed official of the National Paralympic Committee-Rwanda.The national women’s sitting volleyball team is fresh from beating their Ugandan counterparts in two friendly matches played last weekend at the NPC gymnasium at Amahoro stadium. The hosts won the first match in three straight sets on Saturday; however, the second game on Sunday was a lot tighter as the visitors put up a spirited fight before going down in five sets 3-2.Both Rwanda and Uganda were using the games as part of preparations for the African Championship, which also doubles as the World Championships qualifier. The continental meet was initially supposed to be held in Uganda but it was called off until further notice after Kampala failed to get sponsors on time."The international sitting volleyball federation is yet to fix a new host for the African Championships after Uganda failed to organize it,” Rwanda team head coach Elie Manirarora told Times Sport yesterday.Asked if Rwanda, who hosted the Men’s World Championships in September, would bid to organize the women’s event, Manirarora said, "We’re not too eager in bidding to host it but if the world governing body confide in us then we would consider.”The men’s fourth edition of the world championship was won by Germany after beating hosts and defending champions, Rwanda 49-47 in a nail-biting finale. It was Germany’s third world title.
