A top Danish court today ruled that Genocide suspect Emmanuel Mbarushimana must be extradited to Rwanda to stand trial.
The Danish Supreme Court said the Government of Rwanda and Denmark should go ahead with processing the transfer of the suspect to Kigali, according to a statement from the National Public Prosecution Authority (NPPA).
Rwanda had issued an arrest warrant and extradition request with regard to Mbarushimana, who is accused of playing part in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
"On behalf of the Government of Rwanda, the NPPA would like to thank the Kingdom of Denmark for the significant vote of confidence it has given to the Rwandan justice system", said Alain Mukuralinda, NPPA Spokesman.
Mbarushimana is charged with genocide, complicity in genocide, conspiracy to commit genocide, murder and extermination committed in the former Commune Muganza, in the then Butare Prefecture.
