THE start of the 2013/14 national rugby league season which was expected to kick off last week has been pushed to this weekend, according to the Rwanda Rugby Federation’s technical director Jean Baptiste Itanzi.Itanzi told Times Sport yesterday, "The league was pushed on request from different clubs whose players have been doing national exams across the country. We decided that the league kicks off effective this weekend.”Defending champions Remera Buffaloes lead the contenders for league title but will face stiff competition from the likes of UNR Grizzlies, Muhanga, and Puma from Kamonyi, Sharks and Lion de Fer.Buffaloes will open up the Central league quest against Lion de Fers in Kigali, while Muhanga host Puma in Southern league showdown in Muhanga.Simba and Tumba College are the two clubs that have pulled out of this year’s league due to financial reasons. The Remera Buffaloes have won six consecutive league trophies and have also dominated the other tournaments like the 7s and 10s events and only lost the Muhanga 7s last year to the hosts.
