KARONGI — Police in Kibuye have arrested a young boy who allegedly tried to kill his mother over land disputes.

Fredric Kwihangana, and his half brother, Pascal Hakizimana, both aged 16, are alleged to have attempted to stub Esperance Mukashogoza, using a knife early this week.

The two who are residents of Kiniha, Karongi district, accuse her of occupying their father’s house and land.
The duo argues that Mukashogoza was not entitled to the family property.

She is apparently responsible for the imprisonment of their father.

The boys’ father, is currently detained at Gitarama prison. He is sentenced to 25 years over genocide crimes.

Prior to the imprisonment, the man had however, given his sons pieces of land on which to build houses. "Since it’s my father’s land I need it and yes I tried to kill her,” the boy said at the police station.

The woman saved her self using a stick that she was carrying, eye witnesses said.

The boys insisted that if their mother doesn’t leave their father’s home, she "would face the consequences”.

"As he tried to stub me, he asked me the reason why I came from Gisenyi to marry their father yet I was not one of them,” said Mukashogoza, adding that it was not the first time the two were making the same utterances.

She suggested that other family relatives are conniving with the boys to kill her.

"These children’s relatives have as well been accusing me of causing the imprisonment of my husband. I’m scared I might be harmed at anytime,” said Mukashogoza.
