Fresh from making a historic debut in the Asian Tour held in the UAE last month, Rwanda’s number one professional golfer Jean Baptiste Hakizimana bounced back in style to win the 2013 Kabale Golf Open which climaxed on Saturday. Hakizimana, carded two under par 69 on the first day and five under par 66, to win the two-day tournament with a gross score of 135. Ugandan pair of Opio Onito and Jinja-based Fred Wanzala tied on gross score of 144, while Rwanda’s number two Emmanuel Ruterana finished fourth after carding 71 and 75 to equal a total score of 146. Hakizimana told Times Sport yesterday, "I am happy for a positive comeback. The experience gained in Dubai has paid off and I am looking forward to winning more major championships.” Hakizimana has now shifted focus to MTN Celebrates golf tournament due this weekend in Kampala, Uganda. The Nyarutarama-based golfer, who missed cuts in the Abu Dhabi Golf Citizen Open, Shaikh Maktoum Dubai Classic, the Ras Al Khaimah Classic and Qatar Classic tours is seeking to make amends on the regional level.
