VILLAGE URUGWIRO - The president of Catholic Relief Services (CRS), an organization that oversees humanitarian interventions by the Catholic Church, Wednesday paid a courtesy call on President Paul Kagame at Village Urugwiro.

Ken Hackett told The New Times that they had discussed various interventions to Rwanda by the organization and how they could be strengthened.

"We have been operating in Rwanda since 1963 and our areas of assistance are mainly in agriculture and education. We are very happy with the development Rwanda has achieved and we hope to continue working together towards development,” Hackett said.

He said that they will strengthen their activities in Rwanda especially in the agricultural sector by helping Rwandans to be self sufficient as has been the government policy.

Hackett, who is also a board member to the Millennium Challenge Cooperation (MCC), invited President Kagame to speak to the Americans who are part of this society when he next visits the United States.

In agriculture, CRS has embarked on promoting cassava production in the country and they also help schools in getting meals to the students.

Working through the CARITAS network, CRS committed $8.4m (approx Frw4.6bn) to different activities in the country this year.
