Rwanda’s medal hopeful Dieudonne Disi winds up his preparations for the Beijing Olympic Games when he competes in tonight’s French National Championship event in Paris.

Disi, who will compete in the 5000m event, told Times Sport yesterday from Paris that he will be aiming to improve on his speed in a championship which will also attract a big number of athletes of North African.

"I will be taking part in this event with a target of finishing in the top three. I will be coming against North African as well as European athletes,” said Disi whose national record in 5000m stands at 13:38.12.

Disi further added that he will rely on his much improved pace to stage a better display in tonight’s championship which will be his last before he sets off to Beijing for the Olympic Games set for August 8-24.

This is Disi’s second competition in a space of five days; he participated in the Meeting Gaz de France held in Paris last Friday clocking 7:50.81 to finish twelveth in 3000m event which was won by Kenyan rival Soi Edwin Cheruiyot.

Disi took part in the Meeting Gaz de France race with an aim of improving his pace ahead of the Beijing Games where he will compete in 10.000m.

Disi (10.000m) and Epiphanie Nyirabarame (marathon) are the only two runners who have qualified in the main stream athletics for the Games.

Rwanda will also be represented in swimming where two swimmers Pamela Girimbabazi and Jackson Niyomugabo have already been selected after securing wildcards.
