Kenya’s First Lady Margaret Kenyatta yesterday visited Kacyiru Police Hospital, which hosts Isange One-Stop Centre that supports victims of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).Accompanied by her Rwandan counterpart, First Lady Jeannette Kagame, Margaret Kenyatta also visited the Kacyiru Police Hospital where Imbuto Foundation implements the Family Package project that deals with social integration and economic empowerment for people living with HIV/Aids. Isange One-Stop Centre offers free medical, legal and counseling services to victims of GBV. While the family package is implemented by the Imbuto Foundation, providing psychosocial support, economic empowerment and peer education for families infected and affected by HIV/Aids.The two First Ladies were received by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations, Dan Munyuza, and other Police officials.In a statement, the Commandant of the Police Hospital, Dr Daniel Nyamwasa, said Margaret Kenyatta was out to witness how GBV-related issues are addressed at the centre and how the family package works.Isange centreThe centre has made tremendous strides in addressing GBV challenges. It has handled 6,246 cases since 2009. Meanwhile, Mrs Kagame hosted her Kenyan counterpart to a luncheon with Rwandan women leaders, according to a separate statement from the Office of the First Lady. They included the Minister for Gender and Family Promotion, Oda Gasinzigwa, National Bank Vice Governor Monica Nsanzabaganwa, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education Sharon Haba, Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Caroline Kayonga, among others. Mrs Kagame also introduced her Foundation, the Imbuto Foundation, to Mrs Kenyatta in a meeting also attended by Minister of State for Primary Healthcare, Dr Anita Asiimwe, the statement said.Gender and Family Promotion Minister, Gasinzigwa, and some of Imbuto Foundation’s board member also attended the meeting.Mrs Kenyatta accompanied husband President Uhuru Kenyatta, to attend integration projects summit held yesterday in Kigali. They are expected conclude their visit after attending the ongoing Transform Africa Summit which enters its second day today.
