Football Kenya Federation (FKF) are claiming to have landed a title sponsor for this year’s Council of East and Central Africa Senior Challenge Cup which will be held in Nairobi from November 27 to December 12.
FKF President Sam Nyamweya said over the weekend that the sponsor will be unveiled this week three weeks before the tournament kicks-off.
Nyamweya believes the final hurdle in hosting the two-week competition has finally been taken care of and he thanked all those who have come out to support their hosting bid.
"I can confidently say that the title sponsors will be unveiled next week. This will go a long way in us hosting a successful tournament in Kenya. We want to thank all those who have stood by us and supported this bid in every way,” he was quoted in the Kenyan press.
He added, "I also want to confirm that all the twelve countries have confirmed participation and we are now putting in place final touches to have a successful competition.”
According to the official, the local organising committee carried out an inspection tour of Nakuru’s Afraha Stadium over the weekend and renovation works on Moi Stadium in Kisumu are on course.
Last week, Cecafa leadership had heavily relied on the Kenyan Government for funds but Kenya’s cabinet secretary in charge of Sports and Culture Hassan Wario revealed that they have no money to bankroll the annual competition.
Cecafa requires approximately Ksh60m (about Rwf471m) to stage the Challenge Cup in Kenya.
