Editor,
On the issue of the Franc depreciation, the question is how much power the National Bank of Rwanda (BNR) has to support the local currency against structural tendencies.
What is the latest trend in foreign reserves?
In the short-term, the central bank may take some prudential measures, but other factors will come into play in the medium term to determine whether the currency depreciates or not.
Besides, policies that create output and value-addition in export and job creation are the duty of the Executive, not the central bank.
Will the Rwanda Franc ever recover its levels of 2011? It’s a big question.
