Editor,

This is with reference to the article, "Eight heads of state for crucial Africa ICT meet” (The New Times, October 28).

Kudos to the Government of Rwanda for hosting such an important international summit, more so on ICT.

No doubt that the ongoing ICT revolution, coupled with the rural electrification programme, will indeed greatly impact positively on the lives of millions of people. However, I urge leaders to hold an open debate on the issue of power (energy) which continues to cost relatively high.

Also, let us words should translate into actions. As such, the resolutions at the summit should be implemented to bring about the desired change.

Sometimes the ordinary people get excited when a new project is launched, only for them to be disappointed later when it fails to take off. For instance, we have practically forgotten all about Karisimbi Project, while for quite a long time, a lot has been talked about the prospects of the methane gas project without major progress.

We should learn to remain focused even after the launch of these otherwise crucial programmes. Resolutions from Transform Africa should be implemented to the letter.
