The highly anticipated ‘K Unplugged’ party happened Friday evening with over a dozen musicians entertaining their eager fans who turned up.It was a sizeable crowd which attended the 98.7KFM organised event at Expo Grounds in Gikondo as all the artistes who have dominated the radio’s playlist in 2013 graced the stage to entertain the mostly youthful audience.MCs and presenters Tino and Arthur partnered with DJ Danches to ensure that the crowd remained on its feet as the artistes took turns to perform one after the other in a sequence that ensured there was no boredom. The show kicked off as early as 6pm with artistes Ricky Password, Social Mula, Peace, new kids on the block Active and Danny Nanone opening the act. There was no stopping whatsoever. TBB, Fireman and King James appeared early on stage. Perhaps to claim longer time on stage, they also joined Paccy to do ‘Let me touch your body’.Two4Real performed their new song Agatara before they were joined by Ama G the Black in Agakayi to the delight of the crowd. But as time advanced, performances were reduced from at least three songs to two or one as midnight approached. Kamichi performed two songs; Ubuntubutizaurugi and Ahoruzingiye while Dr Claude came on and did only one song Akabajou.Christopher was forced to do one song ‘Ndabyemeye’ but he was to return later to perform ‘Rubanda’ with the rest of the Kina Music crew. Dream Boys too performed one song UrareAharyana but joined in Rubanda later.Knowless performed her latest ‘Baramushaka’ while Eric Senderi, Uncle Austin and Jay Polly closed the event which ended a few minutes to midnight with good performances. The highlight of the event however was when the NHR staff surprised the group’s country manager Philip Velese by bringing a birthday cake on stage as he gave a speech. The crowd sang the birthday song for the elated manager.People danced, ate and drunk. There was also a red carpet event for all who attended the show. The inaugural K unplugged was largely a success despite the numbers being lower than expected but it was all fun.The party was aimed at connecting artistes to their fans in an entertaining atmosphere and also bring the radio presenters closer to their ardent listeners.
