Rwanda Cycling Federation (Ferwacy) has named Captains to lead Rwanda’s three teams taking part in the 2013 Tour du Rwanda, scheduled for November 17 -24.
Rwanda Cycling Federation (Ferwacy) has named Captains to lead Rwanda’s three teams taking part in the 2013 Tour du Rwanda, scheduled for November 17 -24.As hosts, Rwanda will field three teams to maximise their potential for success in the Tour, which has attracted 16 teams. The teams will include representation throughout the African continent as well as teams from the United States of America, France and Belgium.National champion Gasore Hategeka will captain’ Team Akagera’, which will include Joseph Biziyaremye, Hassan Rukundo, Emile Bintunimana and Valens Ndayisenga."I will be a good captain and will work with my other captains to bring a win to Team Rwanda,” Gasore said from the Team Rwanda training base in Musanze .Vastly experienced Nathan Byukusenge will lead ‘Team Karisimbi’. The other members on this team are; Abraham Ruhumuriza, Jean Bosco Nsengiyumva, Janvier Hadi and Bonaventure Uwizeyimana. ‘Team Muhabura’ will be captained by Innocent "Rocky” Uwamungu. Rocky is returning in Tour du Rwanda after missing the 2012 edition due to health challenges.He will ride alongside Jeremy Karegeya, Patrick Byukensenge, Theoneste Karasira and Aime Mupenzi, who all will be competing in Tour du Rwanda for their first time. The three teams will be handled by Rwanda Cycling Federation Technical Director, Jonathan "Jock” Boyer, who will be assisted by Felix Sempoma (president of Benediction cycling club) as well as former Team Rwanda riders Obed Ruvogera (team doctor) and Rafiki Uwimana (team mechanic).The Rwandan Cycling Federation president Aimable Bayingana said that all the 15 riders, who will feature for the three teams were very happy after the announcement of their captains and their goal is to capture several stage wins and to secure another Team win for the country.He noted, "The Team is being built slowly. Slowly and surely our team is becoming strong. You can’t start in five years and pretend to beat those who started 100 years ago. We are happy of what we have achieved so far.”"We have a vision and a long way to go. We promise an improvement this year than the last one. It will take the work of all the three teams to make this a reality this year,” he explained.
