President Paul Kagame on Monday, September 12 arrived in Nairobi to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect William Ruto, according to the Presidency.

The ceremony is expected to take place on Tuesday, and it is set to be attended by at least 20 heads of state, mainly from the region.

Upon his arrival, Kagame held talks with Ruto at the latter’s office in Karen, Nairobi, where the two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest.

"Kenya and Rwanda have a long established relationship based not just on geography but mutual interests and long standing partnerships on economic and security issues. We will seek to build and expand our cooperation for the mutual benefit of the citizens of our countries,” Ruto announced on his twitter handle after the meeting.

Ruto was declared winner after a hotly contested race in which he garnered 50.49 percent of total valid votes, beating his arch-rival and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Odinga later challenged the outcome of the polls carried out on August 9, but the Kenyan Supreme Court upheld Ruto as the winner, setting the stage for his inauguration.

Ruto served as Deputy President for the last ten years where he deputized Uhuru Kenyatta for two consecutive terms.

His inauguration will take place at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.
