Eggs, Irish potatoes prices up

Prices of bananas, eggs and Irish potatoes have gone up in all the major markets in the City of Kigali.

Prices of bananas, eggs and Irish potatoes have gone up in all the major markets in the City of Kigali. A kilogramme of bananas costs Rwf220 in Kicukiro, Remera, Nyamirambo, Kimironko and Kimihurura markets, up from Rwf165 a few days ago. Irish potatoes go for between Rwf220 and Rwf250 a kilo from Rwf200, while a tray of eggs has increased from Rwf2,500 to Rwf3,000.Traders attributed the increase to decline in supply.A kilogramme of beef is unchanged at between Rwf2,300 and Rwf2,400 in Kimironko and Nyarugenge markets, while whole chicken goes for Rwf10,000 and fish is at Rwf2,800 a kilo. A kilogramme of millet flour is Rwf1,220 that of cassava costs Rwf700 and ground nuts Rwf1,200 a kilo.Maize flour goes for Rwf670 a kilo in Nyarugenge and Kimironko markets. Rice costs between Rwf700 and Rwf1,000 (depending on the type) in Kicukiro and Remera markets.Soap is at Rwf600 (six grammes), a litre of cooking oil Rwf1,500 and passion fruits cost between Rwf900 and Rwf1,400 a kilogramme, salt is at Rwf250 and sugar costs Rwf700 a kilogramme.
