Few writers speak about African heroes as many are afraid of being criticised – few newspapers publish such articles.The heroes from our continent have been neglected, subjected to humiliation. Every hill has a hero. The history of Africa has taught us about our heroes. It is time to learn from them, to teach our children about them and the African philosophy.The last sentence of your article is a call to African leaders to take risk and champion Africa interests first.Gilbert, New York, United States****************************************Dear Butamire, it is absolute bliss reading your articles in The New Times. With this one on Thomas Sankara however, you have challenged me to make a drastic statement of fact: heroism and defence of the oppressed are abstract concepts some, if not most Africans, will never know at this stage of their evolution. The concepts call for sacrifice and moral astuteness that is so sublime that it would never be grasped let alone be practiced here on mother continent for the next 200 years or so.
