Cyanika border to get modern One-Stop centre

The Ministry of Infrastructure plans to construct a One-Stop Border Post at the Rwanda-Uganda border at Cyanika to facilitate easy and speedy clearance and movement of goods and people.

The Ministry of Infrastructure plans to construct a One-Stop Border Post at the Rwanda-Uganda border at Cyanika to facilitate easy and speedy clearance and movement of goods and people.According to Eric Ntagengerwa, head of planning in the Rwanda Transport Development Agency (RTDA), the project will be undertaken along with the construction of a 24km Musanze -Cyanika road.He was speaking in a meeting that brought together government officials and investors in Musanze District after touring the border on recently.The meeting also discussed the construction of cross border market that is set to be constructed by a Japanese venture capital firm at a tune of Rwf2.7billion.Ntagengerwa said the project will start as soon land is identified and a feasibility study conducted.He added that both Rwanda and Ugandan will foot the construction cost.Feasibility study "The concept of one border post facilitates the transport process, for trucks and travellers to be checked quickly. For this to be successful we will need to engage Uganda to have a common understanding and where to construct one border post,” said Ntagengerwa.He said that the feasibility study will start in January next year.The estimated cost of constructing the Musanze- Cyanika road is Rwf 20 billion, but the cost of constructing the one border post will be established  after the feasibility study, according to Ntagengerwa.
