Police are holding a woman for allegedly killing her 34-year-old husband following a domestic dispute. The incident occurred at the couple’s home in Bukokoza village, Sake Sector of Ngoma District on Tuesday. The suspect (names withheld) was arrested by the police immediately after allegedly committing the crime. Area residents said the victim and the suspect were alcoholics, and the two frequently quarreled.On the fateful night, the suspect allegedly hit her husband with a wooden log on the head, heavily wounding him. He was rushed to Sangaza Health Centre where he breathed his last.According to Gilbert Nahimana, a neighbour to the family, the couple never lived in peace, adding that they had been blacklisted among troublesome families by a security meeting in the area."The two fought a lot. The woman is said to have killed her first husband under similar circumstances. In fact, the suspect has a history of domestic violence,” he said.Eastern Region Police Spokesman, Senior Supt Jean Marie Njangwe, confirmed the incident, adding that investigations were still going on.In another incident, a six- month old baby died during a scuffle between the parents in Rwakabanda village, Ryamanyomi Cell in Murundi Sector of Kayonza District yesterday.According to the woman, the man accidentally cut the baby with a machete while brandishing it at the mother.According to residents, the suspect escaped to neighbouring Tanzania after committing the crime."The suspect is on the run…he was a habitual drunkard who manhandled the wife, whenever he was drunk. We shall help the police to trace him,” a neighbour said.
