The national football governing body, Ferwafa is restlessly looking for sponsors for the U-18 national football team ahead of the 2009 African Youth tournament that will be staged in Kigali.

According to Ferwafa’s Chief Executive Officer, Jules Kalisa, a number of companies are willing to provide the team with financial backing.

"Many companies are willing to sponsor the team but we are yet to agree on the terms of the sponsorship. We (federation) need a sponsor to support the team from now until the tournament,” the official said.

"Getting a long term sponsor is an alternative of boosting the youth team ahead of this tournament that is expected to attract the continent’s cream,” Kalisa added.

MTN Rwanda is one of the leading potential sponsors but the two parties are yet to finalise talks.

Meanwhile, the U-18 national team set to leave for a two-week training stint in Frankfurt, Germany today.

The two-week training program is meant to improve on the team’s footballing skills but it will also shape them up to become professional players.

The team has been under the management of Ferwafa technical Director, Michael Weiss.

The training programme is meant to prepare the Rwandan team for the 2009 Nations’ Cup, as well as fine tune the team for the South Africa 2010 world Cup.
