Dear Doctor;I am 36 years old. These days I sweat a lot in bed at night. I sometimes have to take showers at 3am yet it is the rainy season. What could be making me sweat so much yet I don’t feel ill? James, Kayonza.
Dear Doctor;I am 36 years old. These days I sweat a lot in bed at night. I sometimes have to take showers at 3am yet it is the rainy season. What could be making me sweat so much yet I don’t feel ill? James, Kayonza.Dear James, there are multiple reasons for sweating in the night. It occurs as a adrenergic response to physical or mental stress of any kind. If one has not eaten well before sleeping, blood glucose levels can go down after few hours causing sweating. Diabetics are more at risk for this condition. Infections, more so non-bacterial ones like parasitic, protozoal or tubercular may manifest as night sweats. But in case of tuberculosis there would be other remarkable symptoms like loss of appetite, fever, etc which are absent in your case cancers like lymphomas can also cause night sweats, but the individual would definitely feel ill. One may get night sweats due to ischemic heart disease. Get tested for intestinal infections, diabetes and hypertension, quit alcohol and tobacco if you use them. Learn to relax absolutely and I think you shall be fine.
