Rwanda’s top professional golfer Jean Baptiste Hakizimana missed out on the share of the prize money at the prestigious Shaikh Maktoum Dubai Open at the Al Badia Golf Club in Dubai after he missed the cut in midweek. Hakizimana, who is making a historic debut in the Asian Tour, shot six over par 150 gross on the opening two days of action at the Al Badia Golf Club in Dubai. He finished ahead of Uganda’s Deo Akope, who shot 11 over par 155 gross. The 27-year-old started his opening round with a score of 74 and followed up with 76 however, his score wasn’t enough to help him make cut in a tournament where only the top 50 players were considered. The event is part of the Mena Golf Tour. Scotland’s Zane Scotland held his nerve to hold off a late charge by his compatriot David Law to win the Mena Golf Tour’s Shaikh Maktoum Dubai Open. The tour goes to Northern Emirates next week for five tours starting Monday where Hakizimana will tackle the Ras Al Khaumah Classic from October 13-16. Other tournaments in the Northern Emirates will include; Abu Dhabi Golf Citizen Open Saadiy at Golf Club from Oct.20th-23rd, Qatar Classic at Doha Golf Club from Oct. 27-30, Oman tour at the Ghala Valley Golf Club from Nov.3-6 and the Mena Tour Championship at Al Ain Equestrian Shooting & Golf Club from Nov.10-13. Hakizimana’s Asian trip is sponsored by Falcon Golf and Country Club based in Muhazi and Tele10. He is the first Rwandan to play in the Asian Golf Tour.
