The National Council of Nurses and Midwives (NCNM) will tomorrow elect new board members. According to Agnes Uwayeze, the NCNM chairperson, the nurses and midwives from all over the country have already nominated potential representatives."The new board of directors will comprise 15 members, including six general practitioners, four registered nurses, two midwives, one mental health worker and two nurses,” Uwayeze said.The NCNM is a professional regulatory body that was established to regulate nursing and midwifery professions for public protection. It aims at safeguarding the integrity of professionals by ensuring that nurses and midwives are capable of effective care."Over 6,000 nurses and midwives have been registered since its establishment in 2009. About 4,000 of those have been licensed to operate legally in Rwanda,” Julie Kimonyo, the council’s registrar, said.
