At least 3,000 youth will be sponsored to undergo training in various disciplines under the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) programme.
The sponsorship will be extended by Global Communities, an international NGO.
The youth will be enrolled in different vocational training centres across the 18 districts where the programme operates, according to a statement.
Global Communities used to be called the CHF International.
The youth are to be sponsored under the organisation’s USAID-funded five year Higa Ubeho (Be Determined and Live) programme that seeks to strength the resilience of vulnerable groups.
The students will join an ongoing programme to support TVET, a programme favoured by the self-reliance drive in the country.
In line with the support for vocational training, Global Communities recently partnered with the Workforce Development Authority to promote TVET awareness across Rwanda.
The three–month media campaign targets the youth and community in order to understand the benefits of gaining employable skills.
"It is important that we fight against the negative perceptions towards TVET if the youth are to realise their potential in vocational skills,” said Victor Mugarura, the communications and outreach manager for Global Communities Rwanda.

According to Emmanuel Nuwamanya, the communications officer at WDA, the target is to reach as many youth as possible.
The TVET awareness campaign includes media messages, interpersonal communication, alongside a symposium for experts in vocational training.
As part of its sponsorship programme, Global Communities has urged the youth to realise benefits of having employable skills in line with government’s priorities outlined in the second Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy.
