Contrary to rumours that they were not going to return, Rwandan R&B Afropop group Urban Boys, returned home Tuesday night from Belgium.
Word around most media outlets had it that the boys had sold off all their property before leaving for Belgium, where they were invited to perform.
The group comprises three artistes James Manzi, aka Humble Jizzo, Safi Niyibikora, alias Safi Lee and Muhammed Nshimiyimana, also known as Nizzo.
"We would like to let our fans know that we are back. We got back last night after a successful performance in Belgium at the closing of the Mr. and Miss Belgium Rwanda annual pageant,” said Humble Jizzo, the group’s frontman.
"We performed before a mammoth crowd that received our performance well, terming us as the best they have seen in a long time. It was a live performance that lasted over two hours.”
Humble Jizzo said they got wind of the rumor that they had left Rwanda for good as they prepared to return home.
"We are not sure who began the rumour and their intentions. Such rumours risk the group’s career musically and ruin our reputation as people may begin doubting us. It is also bad for the business, especially now that we are having lots of bookings,” Jizzo added.
Jizzo assured fans that the group has no plans of leaving the country because they have business interests and ongoing projects in Rwanda. "We have been working hard on projects in Rwanda, why would we want to leave all of a sudden? We are on course to release our new album next month. So it would be a bad timing to leave,” he explained.
The group said the performance in Belgium was a breakthrough in growing an international fan base.
"We have been working very hard for this and it is good that things are beginning to work out. We have upcoming concerts in Canada and Holland in the near future,” noted Humble Jizzo.
