Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) has received a six-month coaching boost with a UK cricket development and AIDS awareness charity, Cricket Without Borders (CWB) to recruit cricket coaches for schools. In order to deliver CWB’s mission’s to change lives through cricket and creating additional sustainability and promotion of both RCA and CWB work, an MOU between the two parties was signed over the weekend. In the MOU, CWB gave a grant of $1,800 for the next six months that will help RCA to recruit two coaches (CWB ambassadors) whose mandate will be aimed at providing cricket coaching whilst integrating the HIV/AIDS awareness messages in schools. They will also be responsible for coaching of school teachers. In addition to the grant, CWB has donated cricket equipment, clothing and 2 digital cameras.Speaking about the grant, the RCA President Charles Haba expressed his delight at the offer from CWB, saying, "This will definitely grow our playing numbers as well as impact on their behavior.” Lee Booth the CWB representative said, "The value of having the ambassadors on the ground ensures year long activity and better organised projects,” Cricket Without Borders is dedicated to helping, educating and developing local communities around the world through the spread and growth of cricket. Since 2008 RCA partnered with CWB and a lot of activities have been undertaken. Alongside its dedication and enthusiasm to spread the HIV/AIDS messages, the group which is led by Jules Farman has imparted cricket skills to the youth in schools, universities and orphanages all around Rwanda.
