Ducks belong to the family of Birds. If they have been raised alone they think that they are part of whatever flock is around them.

They just feel alright wherever they are. A male duck is called a drake and a female one is called a duck. Their young are called ducklings.

Ducks are related to geese and swans. Ducks are the smallest of them all and have shorter necks and wings and a stout body.

Ducks can live from 2-12 years, depending on the species.
Ducks have webbed feet, which act like the paddles of a boat. A duck waddles instead of walking because of its webbed feet.

Ducks’ feet have no blood vessels. This means ducks never feel cold, even if they swim in icy cold water.

Ducks’ feathers are waterproof which means water cannot get onto their bodies. Female ducks lay a lot of eggs. They give people eggs, meat and feathers.

Ducks eat snails, slugs and small insects. Ducks keep clean by picking dirt from their feathers using their beaks. They also make their nests with feathers plucked from their chest.

Ducks were once wild birds until they were domesticated by the Chinese hundreds of years ago. Pet ducks will entertain you with their clowning around and funny tricks. They should always be kept clean so that they do not smell.
