AUSTRIAN Gerard Melzer lived up to his pre-tournament billing as the favourite by winning the 2013 ITF Men’s Future Rwanda F1 tournament which concluded on Saturday at Umubano Hotel courts.

The 23-year old-left handed Melzer, ranked 201 on the ATP rankings, edged out his compatriot Lukas Jastraunig with an easy straight sets win 6-1, 6-1 in just over an hour.

This year, Melzer has now won 33 and lost 22 matches in singles category, while Jastraunig has won 25 and lost 20 matches.

And it was all smiles again for the two Austrians as Melzer teamed up with Jastraunig to claim the doubles title. The pair beat Jannis Liniger of Switzerland and Indian Mithun Murali 6-2, 6-4.

Melzer’s singles victory was a repeat of last year when he lifted Burundi F1 Futures and Rwanda F1 Futures after registering double success in Chile.
