MTN Rwanda has appointed Ebenezer Asante the new chief executive officer, replacing Khaled Mikkawi.

Sifiso Dabengwa, the group chief executive officer, thanked Mikkawi for his invaluable contribution to the telecom firm over the years.

Dabengwa credited Mikkawi for growing MTN customer base from over 1,886,000 to close to 3,700,000 today.

"During the SIM card registration exercise, he personally registered subscribers, including the Prime Minister, ambassadors and government officials,” he said.

Dabengwa said Asante brings a wealth of experience to the Rwandan team. "We know he will add tremendous value in his new role, not only to MTN Rwanda, but also to the MTN executive leadership team,” he said.

Asante has been serving as the sales and distribution executive at MTN Ghana since 2008 at MTN Ghana. Before joining MTN he had worked with Unilever and was its Zambia country manager in 2005.

He holds a BA (Hons) economics and statistics degree from the University of Ghana, a post-graduate diploma in management from Henley Management College, and was part of MTN Global Advancement Programme (GAP) in 2010.
