RWANDA men’s basketball team centre player Kami Kabangu is holding trials with Morocco’s Charab Al Hoaciema. The 29-year old player, who has been featuring for Uganda’s City Oil, will know his professional fate on October 30 after featuring in a number of friendly matches as part of trials. The national hoops team coach Moise Mutokambali said on Tuesday that the local basketball federation received Charab Hoaciema’s request to have Kabangu undergo trials late last month. If he passes the trials, Kabangu who has previously featured for defending champions Espoir and APR, will be the second Rwandan to feature for Charab Hoaciema after Kenneth Gasana.Gasana was a late addition to the Rwandan team for the 2009 FIBA Africa Championship after two Rwandan players pulled out of the tournament three weeks before the scheduled opener.Nevertheless, Gasana averaged 18.3 PPG (points per game), including a 31-point performance against Morocco, to help lead the Rwandans to a 9th place finish and their best performance to date at the African Championships. Kabangu also made 49 rebounds and scored a total 72 points to help Rwanda finish in the top ten of the 2013 Fiba Afrobasket finals held in Cote d’Ivoire.
