When do smoothies become unhealthy?

Smoothies are no doubt a good meal for our overall health. The splendid mix of fruits and vegetables ease the provision of adequate amounts of fiber, minerals and vitamins, since fruits and veggies converge to play their great roles.

However, nutritionists advise considering when to take it and what type to have based on circumstances and situations, to avoid the downside of it. Smoothies could lead to health problems, including potential dental cavities, diabetes, heart disease, obesity and many more.

"Fruits and vegetables in smoothies contain fiber that has pulverized during the blending process. As a result, you’re likely to feel hungrier again sooner after drinking the smoothie than you would have had eaten the same fruits or vegetables as a whole” Philemon Kwizera, a nutritionist at Nutri-Sante Nutrition Cabinet says

He adds that the condition could make you crave for snacks or others foods that will accelerate to more body fat or calorie consumption, in order to deal with excessive hunger

"Especially on an empty stomach, the fruits or veggies mixed in smoothies may be citrus acids, which have a low PH, meaning they are acidic and they could contribute to gastrointestinal repercussions like an ulcer or reflux” Kwizera says

He says that, when taking a smoothie infused with upper citrus fruits, you should have it a little before the meal, because even having them immediately after a meal as a refresh might increase acid formation in the stomach, causing a feeling of heaviness and digestive problems hence minimizing nutrients absorption.

According to Peter Amizero, nutritionist from Amazon Nutrition Cabinet, many people prefer taking these fruits or veggies mostly through smoothies, yet it has been shown that if you’re drinking smoothies more frequently, you may be consuming a lot more fruit than you would otherwise, yet excessive sugar intake can be harmful, in terms of adding calories and sugar when we drink smoothies than when consuming whole veggies or fruits

He adds, which is important to remember that the nutritional value of a smoothie is determined by what ingredients are used and level of consuming it. It is always advised to balance the diets.

The beverages labeled as a healthy food become a common healthy trend for its great role of boosting fruits and veggies intake. It is also great for detoxification and cleanses such as green smoothie

Amizero says that studies have shown that the mixture can be dangerous practice, due to the extremely low amount of energy consumed and can lead to deficiencies in essential nutrients.

It’s claimed purpose is to remove supposed toxins from the body, allowing for more adequate absorption of nutrients and promoting weight loss.

The liver and kidneys are extraordinary organs that perform wondrous functions for the body. One of these functions is to remove actual toxins from the body, a process they can perform without the assistance in cleansing.

The nutritionist says, the detoxification can be minimized and used when necessary, to promote a balanced diet because if eaten in moderation as part of a balanced diet, smoothies may be a good way to increase consumption of healthy foods and nutrients.
