NEW Rayon Sports signing Meddie Kagere wants to help his Nyanza-based team to win more trophies this season. The former Police FC striker signed a two-year contract on Monday.

The Rwandan international forward joined the Blues after his proposed move to Lebanese Premier League Safa SC failed to mature despite having impressed in trials early last month.

However, Rayon Sports fans will be delighted to hear that the 2011/12 top scorer is already aiming to win more silverware with the club that enjoys the biggest fan base in the country.

"I am happy to join Rayon Sports. They are the champions of Rwanda and I am here to help them win more trophies,” he told Times Sport in his first interview since signing a deal reported to be worth Rwf9 million.

He noted, "We have a very strong team that can improve a lot this season. I think we will win more trophies because we have the potential [to do so].”

"I’m so honored to be playing for the country’s most supported club. I hope we can have a successful season. It feels really good.”

"After all that I have been through in the past two months, I’m really looking forward to the new challenge and life in Nyanza, am just meeting my team-mates, the manager and the fans.

"It’s a perfect decision for me and I’m excited to be here,” added Kagere, who trained for the first time with his team under Didier Gomez da Rosa on yesterday.

Rayon fans will not have to wait long to see new hero make his debut for the club as they face Gicumbi FC in the new league season’s opening match at Amahoro stadium on Saturday.

The Rwandan international talisman spent three seasons at Police FC, scoring 38 league goals and his partnership with last season’s top scorer Amiss Cedric and second top score Shalita Kambale would be the most feared in the league.
