The National Cyber Security Authority (NCSA) has officially presented Irembo with its Data Controller and Data Processor registration certificates, following the institution’s full compliance with all requirements.
The handover ceremony took place at the Data Protection and Privacy Office on August 10.
Rwanda enacted the Personal Data Protection and Privacy Law on October 15, 2021. This legislation included a transitional period of two years, allowing businesses and organisations to align with the legal framework before the final compliance deadline of October 15, 2023.
Through their adherence to the stipulations outlined in the Personal Data Protection and Privacy Law, Irembo has showcased their dedication to safeguarding the personal information of the individuals utilising their services.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Irembo’s CEO, Israel Bimpe, highlighted the significance of achieving the milestone.
"This compliance milestone is a crucial achievement for Irembo, showcasing our dedication to data privacy and protection. Citizen’s trust is at the core of Irembo values, and data privacy and protection are a priority to ensure that we continue to nurture this trust. We remain committed to safeguarding citizens’ data while providing reliable, accessible, and user-friendly services,” he said.
The chief executive of the NCSA, Col. David Kanamugire, commended Irembo for their proactive approach to implementing the necessary safeguards to protect the personal data of citizens that use Irembo services.
He noted that compliance with the Personal Data Protection and Privacy Law signifies Irembo’s dedication to safeguarding the interests and privacy of citizens.
