SundayGicumbi 37-27 APRGS Rambura 39-23 ES KigomaThe 2007 national handball champions Gicumbi registered a convincing win over APR on Sunday to top the national league standings.The military side, which last won the league title in 2010 before archrivals Police started their dominance, lost 37-27 on Sunday.In the other league match, visitors ES Kigoma beat GS Rambura 39-23."This victory is important for us as the title race for the league title hots up, it’s not easy to beat a tough side like APR by that margin,” Gicumbi’s head coach Ebenezel Murenzi said after the game.He added, "We are happy to be top of the table and in the race for the title alongside Police, who will face in the last league match, which means we need to win the other matches before meeting them.”In the last three games, Gicumbi will come up against ES Kigoma and National University of Rwanda before facing defending champions Police on October 6.Gicumbi lead the standings with 30 points, three points ahead of Police but who have played a game less.APR are in third position with 25 points, while ES Kigoma follow with 23 points.
