The Korean government, through Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), on Friday signed an agreement with the Ministry of Education, which will see the former sinking $5 million in the development of technical and vocational education training programmes.The State Minister in Charge of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Albert Nsengiyunva signed on behalf of the government, while Sang-chul Kim, the agency`s resident representative signed for KOICA. Under the deal, Rwanda Technical Teachers’ Institute (RTTI), will be constructed at the Integrated Polytechnic Regional Centre - Kigali in Kicukiro."This grant will contribute greatly to the development of our TVET sub-sector; and this is in line with our Vision 2020 and the second Economic Development Poverty Reduction Strategy,” Nsengiyumva said.This is the second phase of the agency’s support to the Integrated Polytechnic Regional Centre-Kigali. In the first phase that started in 2010, Korea supported the Integrated Polytechnic Regional Centre-Kigali,with equipment in five of its departments.Sang said that the grant is one of the agency’s efforts to strengthen the TVET system in producing competent human resource for the rapidly growing labour market. "From our experience and according to the success in the first phase, we acknowledge the need of human resource in contributing to the country’s sustainable socio-economic development,” he said.
