Clubs gear up for Football Rwanda Media tourney

LOCAL CLUBS are set to enhance their preparations for the upcoming season when they take part in the annual Football Rwanda Media Tournament due this afternoon at Stade de Kigali.

The tournament which will be contested by only four clubs will see Peace cup winners AS Kigali facing SC Kiyovu while Primus league title holders Rayon Sports takes on Mukura. The winners of the today’s semi-finals will meet in the final on Sunday at Amahoro national stadium.According to Davis Ndayisenga, chairman of Football Rwanda Media, the winning team will pocket Rwf4 million; second-placed will walk away with Rwf2 millions with third placed and fourth settling for Rwf1 million and Rwf500, 000 respectively. Another official on the organizing committee, Chaffy Madaheranwa, said, "The reason for organising this event at this time of the season is to help the clubs gauge themselves just before the season starts.”"And we will continue to support this tournament every year because we want it to be part of the development of Rwandan football,” he noted.Madaheranwa also disclosed that a similar two-day-four-team tournament will be held before the start of the league second round."We will have the same tournament in middle of the league because we need to support the teams, not only for preparations but also financially through the prize money that we give,” he explained.Last season, Rayon Sports emerged victors after a 3-0 win over SC Kiyovu in the inaugural edition.
