No excuse for not holding Genocide fugitives accountable

Editor,

On the issue of arresting and trying the suspects linked to the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, I think countries where the wanted génocidaires are hiding can validly apply the principle of "aut dedere aut judicare” (extradite or prosecute) to ensure that justice is delivered and impunity eliminated.

There is also the "universal jurisdiction” that is so often abused. This can also be used to try such fugitives where they may be. For me, it is better to insist on the application of the two principles.

If we insist on extradition treaties, justice will continue to be delayed.
