Tigo Rwanda subscribers have reached two millions. The telecom firm celebrated the achievement by giving away Rwf2m to the two millionth subscriber, Frederick Nkizamacumu, on Tuesday evening.
"I am excited...I felt appreciated when I was informed that I would get Rwf2m as the two millionth subscriber. I joined Tigo because of its Tigo Cash mobile money service,” he said.
Fidèle Ndayisaba, the City of Kigali mayor, lauded the firm, saying telecom services, especially where one can send or receive money with ease or access wireless Internet in a public bus or hotel, supplement the city council’s drive to have a ‘smart’ city.
Diego Camberos, the Tigo general manager, said the firm’s goal was to ensure every Rwandan feels the digital lifestyle experience, especially in the way they do business and socialise.
According to statistics from the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority, at the end of July MTN had 3,665,094 subscribers, Tigo 1,994,468 and Airtel 959,551, making a total of 6,619,113 or 62.8 per cent mobile telephony penetration.
