Rwanda coach Paulo de Tarso has named star right-attacker Wycliff Dusenge as new captain of the national volleyball team ahead of the forthcoming 2023 Men’s Volleyball African Championship which will be staged in Cairo, Egypt, from August 28 to September 10.
He replaces Lawrence Yakan Guma and Christophe Mukunzi, who have captained the national team for about a combined ten years.
Dusenge, 24, is currently the most experienced player on the Rwandan team, having made his international debut in 2017.
The Rwanda international, who previously played for APR, REG and Gisagara, is a former captain of the men’s U-21 national volleyball team.

After performing well for the national team during the African Nations Championships that took place in Kigali in September 2021, the volleyball youngster attracted interest from Tala'ea El Gaish Volleyball Club in Egypt.
In October, he signed for the club and played for them on a one-year deal, after which he joined Gisagara.
He now plies his trade with Al-Wakrah VC which is part of Al-Wakrah Sports Club, a professional sports entity based in Al Wakrah, Qatar.
