Spanish coach Carlos Alos Ferrer on Tuesday, August 8, announced his resignation from Rwanda coaching role hours before he was unveiled as new Belarus head coach on a one-year deal.

His departure sparked mixed reactions among Rwandans with some welcoming his decision as ‘good news’ while others insist he was not the real problem to the team.

I can’t say that coach (Ferrer) was the main problem for the Amavubi’s failure to qualify for the AFCON. I can’t say he was the best coach either but speaking of witch, we lack many other things,”

Rwanda lacks qualities when you compare to where we want to be (AFCON), we always see these comments whenever the coach releases squad lists, people are claiming why some players have been called-up while they are not playing in their respective clubs while others are even without teams for six months.

On one hand, I understand his lack of options but on the other hand, there games he would not have lost looking at his opponents and the qualities he had.

Honestly, you cannot convince me that Ferrer did better than Vincent Mashimi. So I think he should have left after completing his first two-year contract.

If we need to be at the AFCON or other big tournaments, we need a coach who has been there not once but constantly, a coach who has proven himself at big stages with a great understanding of modern football.

He wasn’t the problem at all, I don’t think Belarus is stupid enough to appoint a man who failed in a team like Amavubi.

In my opinion, FERWAFA and the Ministry of Sports should start bringing in experienced foreign players to join the national team as they look for a new structure to produce and integrate our home grown talents in the future.

There is nothing to celebrate in his departure. We have had more than five coaches in the past decade and none of them took us to the AFCON or World Cup, only Stephen Constantine so close.

Today he leaves and we are not going to miss him, the team made no significant improvement during his time as the coach.

If we can’t produce a strong team in one year, then let’s have a great coach who can milk the maximum from the players we have because I don’t think we have the worst squad on the continent to lose every game like it happens.
