National league gets Rwf170 million boost

RWANDA Football Federation (Ferwafa) and the country’s main brewery, Bralirwa have agreed a Rwf170m sponsorship deal for the 2013/14 league season.The deal  will also see a re-naming of the league to Turbo National Football LeagueFerwafa chairman, Celestin Ntagungira confirmed the development on Saturday after the annual general assembly held at the federation headquarters in Remera."We have agreed a sponsorship worth Rwf170 million for the upcoming league season. Also the league name will change from Primus to Turbo National Football League. The contract is for one year but renewable,” revealed Ntagungira.Bralirwa has been sponsoring the league under their brand Primus for the past three seasons.  In 2012, Bralirwa Ltd injected Rwf160 million into the league for one season.The sponsorship package covered the 2012/13 national football league, with 47 per cent of the amount directly benefiting clubs through prize money and participation fees with an aim of improving the standard of local football.The country’s main brewery became the first brand sponsor of the national league during the 2004/05 season before pulling out a year later under unclear circumstances.But the two parties re-entered into a new three-year partnership valued at Rwf335m to sponsor the 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons.
