Music and movie award ceremonies have taken place so often, but rarely do we ever see key players in the beauty industry get their flowers beyond social media, which is why the very first Diva Beauty Awards ceremony held plenty of appeal.
The ceremony took place on August 6, and featured a variety of deejays and dancers, all in celebration of the gladiators of the beauty industry.
After a series of performances that included tributes to the late Jay Polly and Junior Multisystem as well as renditions of songs by the likes of Bruce Melodie, Marina and Urban Boys, the award segment of the ceremony eased in.
Competing for the title of Best Makeup Artist was Light Veil, Linda Makeup and Niyo Beauty, alongside Trendy Shadow who won the award.
Contesting for the Best Lash Artist was Queen’s house, Buphor Lashes, Madiva and Shaggy Lashes who took home the award.
The category of Best Nail Artist was awarded by Isai Nails, who competed alongside Kazungu nails, Rasta nails, Vava nails and Maurice nails to mention but a few.
The Tattoo Artist Category had the likes of Kinya Tatoo, Rasta Tatoo, Thamani tattoo on the roaster, although it was Shema Tatoo that won the best tattoo artist award.
Competing for Best Hair Dresser was Amani Hairstyle and Marina Natural Hairstyle, but it was Eugene’s Hairdresser that superseded others and won the best hairdresser award, which is no surprise because Eugene gained popularity during the CHOGM meeting last year where he consistently worked on people’s hair dressed in Imikenyero, Rwanda’s traditional attire. Coincidentally, the best barber’s award was well received by Wamunigga, a barber at Kigali Clipper Zone Saloon.
Competing for Best Waxing, Massage and Facial artist was Le Spa Kigali, Hope Spa, and Alcobra Dubai which was awarded winner, having established themselves as a go to wellness center for all things beauty.
The ceremony concluded proceeding the awarding of the Best Salon, a category that Zuri Hair, Kigali braids and Oxygen Saloon were competing for, with Kigali Clipper Zone taking the award. A female barber was also awarded a hair care kit to encourage more women to join the trade.
