RWANDA Automobile Club (RAC) is in full gear preparing on all fronts to ensure that the 2013 Mt. Gorilla Rally scheduled for next weekend is successful after they equipped local officials with Motorsport safety measures.The training was held last week under the FIA Institute funded programmes worldwide and according to RAC chairman Christian Gakwaya, more than 50 marshals benefited."Trainers from Motorsport Association of UK trained 50 officials (45 from Rwanda and 5 from Burundi), the training was mainly about Motorsport safety marshals,” Gakwaya told Saturday Sport on Thursday.He added, "Now, we have more than 50 trained officials which gives us an advantage when hosting international events. We will be more prepared for this year’s Mt. Gorilla Rally than before.”By press time, 25 drivers had been confirmed on the final day of sending entries. The drivers included 12 Rwandans, 2 Burundians, 1 Zambian, 1 Kenyan and 10 Ugandans.The 2013 Mountain Gorilla Rally, which will cover total distance of 616.5km over three days, will see drivers take part in Gahanga super stage on Friday before traversing from Muhanda to Nduba and Mukoto to Nduba.Defending African rally Champion Mohammed Essa opted to pull out of the race after blowing his chances of retaining the African title in the Pear Uganda rally.Ugandan Jas Mangat and Zambia Jassy Singh are the two front-runners for African title.
