Pugilists summoned for Kenya ‘friendly’ fights

Twenty-four boxers have been summoned to start preparations ahead of the planned friendly fights against Kenya Police scheduled for August 8-10 in Kigali. Rwanda Amateur Boxing Association (Raba) technical director, who also doubles as the national team head coach Gashugi Kananura told Times Sport yesterday that the ‘friendly’ fights with their Kenyan opponents are meant to give more exposurre to local boxers.

Twenty-four boxers have been summoned to start preparations ahead of the planned friendly fights against Kenya Police scheduled for August 8-10 in Kigali.

Rwanda Amateur Boxing Association (Raba) technical director, who also doubles as the national team head coach Gashugi Kananura told Times Sport yesterday that the ‘friendly’ fights with their Kenyan opponents are meant to give more exposurre to local boxers.

"The fights against Kenyan Police (boxing club have already been confirmed. These fights will help us in assessing our boxers as we look for best, who will compete in different continental events next year” Gashugi said.

The 24 boxers were summoned early this month to help them undergo a fully facilitated non-residential training however, Gashugi expressed concerns over the low turn-up.

"The turn-up is still low. The boys were summoned at the beginning of last week but only a few have turned up for the first week of training.

The boxers were selected from the five existing local clubs which include; Remera, Kimisagara, Pan Africa, Rafiki and Inkuba.

They include: (Remera): Jean-Morris Bikorimana, Théoneste Gakunzi, JMV Nsengiyumva, Ali Gashubi, and Samuel Shuti, Vincent Nsengiyumva, Sibomana Hategeka, Salah Butoyi, JP Gatera, Théogène Tuyisenge,Olivier Niyitegeka, Eric Baributsa, Ason Murekezi, Henry Mulisa and Bumaya Nsengumuremyi (Kimisagara).

The others are: Matusi Haziza, Pascal Sibomana, Michel Gashumba, JC Gatorano, Pascal Niyumuremyi, Siraha Nsengumuremyi (Pan Africa), Emmanuel Muhumuza, David Nsabimana (Rafiki) and Silas Sindikubwabo (Inkuba).
