At least 125 police officers depart for Nairobi, Kenya, today for a two-week peacekeeping pre-deployment course. The contingent, under the Formed Police Unit (FPU), is led by Senior Superintendent Jacqueline Urujeni. The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Operations, Dan Munyuza, yesterday, briefed the officers, who include 73 females. The DIGP appealed to the officers to uphold discipline and stick to the institution’s core values and be good ambassadors for their country and the force in particular. He also urged them to be focused and work hard to overcome the mission challenges. "You are going for a challenging training in a foreign country, which requires commitment and hard work,” Munyuza said, urging the officers to be role models during the course. Police said the date of deployment and station of duty will be communicated later. Rwanda maintains about 600 police peacekeepers in eight missions, including Haiti, Sudan, Liberia, Ivory Coast and South Sudan.
