After losing their opening game against Canada 1-0, Richard Tardy’s team went on to draw twice against France (0-0) and Congo Brazzaville (1-1) to finish fourth in Group D with two points. Congo Brazzaville topped the standings with 7 points, followed by France with four points, while Canada finished third with three points. Tardy said on Wednesday, "We didn’t manage to progress to the next round but I am satisfied with the performance from the players. They played good football against very strong and experienced teams and after this experience; their competitive levels have improved.” Mukasakindi set to defend 10,000m titleLong distance runner Claudette Mukasakindi will seek to defend 10000m gold medal when she faces strong competition Friday evening at Charles Ehrmann Stadium. Mukasakindi will come up against Canadian pair Natasha Wodak and Catrin Jones, Diane Nukuri from Burundi, Moroccan pair from Khadija Sammah and Malika Bel Lafkir. Speaking to Times Sport yesterday, Mukasakindi said, "I am ready to defend the title and I am positive about my chances.” Four years ago, Mukasakindi won gold in the women’s 10,000 metres after clocking 35 minutes, 32 seconds and 60 microseconds ahead of silver and bronze winners Bouchra Chaabi and Maria Laghrissi, respectively, both from Morocco.
