Editor,Translation does indeed require a high level of language skills. Jean-Marie Magirirane has studied four languages, but languages function differently in that the expression of a thought varies from one language to another.I am bilingual from birth (English and French) and teach French. Because a person speaks another language does not mean they can translate properly; this is evident in my hometown where French is spoken by many and where sometimes unqualified people are called upon to translate something and where miscommunication has occurred.Using a language dictionary also requires a particular set of skills that are tied to the understanding of how a particular expression is used in a said language.Bravo to this young entrepreneur. Best of luck to him!Christine Boisvert, Maine, USAReaction to the story, "Magirirane, the multilingual genius”, (Sunday Times, September 8)
