RWANDA U-20 football team will make their delayed debut in the Francophone Games against pre-tournament title favorites Canada on Sunday in their first Group D match in Nice, France.
Coach Richard Tardy side goes into today’s fixture against their American rivals, two days after their scheduled opening game against Congo Brazzaville didn’t go ahead following the latter’s last minute withdrawal from the games
"We are determined to try and win the game even as we know it will not be easy against a very good Canada side, but I hope we will find a winning formula,” Tardy told Sunday Sport from Nice.
He noted, "We know Canada are a very strong team, they are actually one of the favorites to win the (football) title, and note that they have also been playing on a much higher level for long than us but we are ready. We want to give our best against them.”
The flopped game on Friday must have given Tardy enough room to work hard to fix whatever loopholes that led to these back to back defeats in warm-up matches in time for their opening match against Canada
The team, which has spent two weeks in France gearing up for this year’s Francophone Games, lost 1-0 to Morocco to extend their losing streak to three matches after defeats to Racing Club Grasse and Rocheville.
Rwanda will play their last match of the group against the host France on Tuesday.
