KIGALI - The acting Executive Secretary of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Charles Munyaneza has confirmed that DFID has honoured its financial pledge towards the upcoming elections.

Speaking to The New Times by phone Wednesday, Munyaneza said that DFID had committed to contribute Euros 1 million (approx. Frw850m) and was the first to do so.

Last week Munyaneza  briefed development partners on the preparations for the up coming elections. The meeting brought together diplomats and heads of international organizations accredited to Rwanda

He said the meeting helped the participants know more about the country’s election process and its contribution towards the election budget.

Munyaneza said that many countries and international organizations have signed  Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with NEC and that they were expected  to honour their pledges in the time frame they gave.

He added that it would be better if the commission got the money earlier for planning purposes. He also observed that payments take long because they are settled from the home countries or organizations.
