Uganda’s heavyweights ST. Mary’s Kitende retained the Brookside East Africa School Games boys’ football title after thrashing Rwandan team ISIG 4-0 in the final.

ESIG, who were making their debut in the regional games, shocked many by reaching the final but could not contain the experienced St. Mary’s Kitende, who continued their dominancy by lifting the title for the sixth consecutive year.

St. Mary’s Kitende, owned by former head of the Uganda football federation (Fufa) Lawrence Mulindwa, secured the win courtesy of Faruk Miya, who struck a brace while Eunice Sentamu and Kezironi Kizito added one apiece to seal the win.

Meanwhile, Solidarity Academy lost the women’s final to Kenya’s Tartar 5-4 on penalties after both sides settled for a goalless draw in normal time.

In girls’ volleyball final, GS Indangaburezi lost to Kenya’s Kwathanze 3-0. Also, ES Kigoma and GS Indangaburezi lost the final matches in volleyball and handball respectively.

Rwanda finished in fourth position with four silver and two bronze medals behind Kenya, Uganda and South Sudan, while Burundi finished last.

Kenya won 12 gold; 5 silver and seven bronze medals; Uganda won seven gold; 11 silver and 8 bronze medals.
