The Rwanda Agricultural Board (RAB) has rolled out a strategic plan for banana production in the country aimed at ensuring sustainable output, use and marketing of banana-based products.Innocent Musabyimana, the RAB deputy director in charge of agricultural extension, said 30 per cent of banana plantations will be rehabilitated and farmers helped to adopt modern agriculture methods next season. "This will improve banana productivity and farmer incomes in the major producing areas in Rwanda,” Musabyimana said.The project will be under the National Banana Research Programme, where the new strategy has been categorised under five themes, according to agricultural extension and mobilisation officer at RAB Jean de Dieu Dushimimana.   They are crop improvement, pest and disease management, market agro-economic factors, natural resource management with post-harvest and utilisation.
